Hitmen hit back, top Chiefs

CALGARY, Alberta – Heading into the third period with a 2-0 lead, the visiting Spokane Chiefs gave up four unanswered goals and were dealt a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Central Division’s Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday.

Just more than 2 minutes into the contest Matt McCue scored his third goal of the season to give the Chiefs (14-14-1-0) a 1-0 lead. Spokane’s lead increased when Adam Hobson tallied a power-play goal at the 13:46 mark for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Hitmen (23-8-0-0) took a 3-2 lead by scoring three goals in less than 4 minutes. An empty-netter sealed the loss for Spokane and snapped a three-game winning streak.

The Chiefs are now 10-2 when leading after two periods of play. Spokane finished the Central Division road trip with a record of 3-2.
