Mitchell ties school record in Idaho’s win

Leilani Mitchell tied a school record with seven 3-pointers as Idaho set a school record with 14 3-pointers in a 99-70 in non-league women’s college basketball win over Utah Valley State in Orem, Utah.

Mitchell finished with 30 points and nine assists as Idaho (3-4) shot 53 percent from the field for the game while holding Utah Valley State (2-5) to 40 percent.

Emily Faurholt added 21 points and eight rebounds for Idaho.

•Lindsey Koppen took a nifty pass from Stephanie Jones and made an 8-foot jumper from the baseline to lift the North Idaho Cardinals to a 57-55 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over Salt Lake at Christianson Gym.

NIC (8-4, 2-0 SWAC) blew a 55-45 lead with less than three minutes left with a couple of costly turnovers against Salt Lake’s press, but rallied to get the win when Koppen found an open area and buried the shot with 1.2 seconds left.

Football

Washington State linebacker Greg Trent was named to the 2005 CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-America second team.

A native of Keller, Texas, Trent played in all 11 games this year, starting five. His 69 tackles were second on the team.

Soccer

Gonzaga University men’s soccer forward George Josten has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Far West All-Regional third team.

Josten, who was an All-West Coast Conference first-team pick this past season as a sophomore, led the WCC in goals with 12 and points with 29.

•After leading Whitworth College to the Final Four, senior defender Todd Sabrowski and junior midfielder Ali Seyedali have been named as second-team Division III All-Americans by the NSCAA.
