Central Valley School District launches community communication tool

The Central Valley School district is launching a new information system for willing community members.

The district’s Key Communicator Network will begin in January and will include a “loose-knit group of opinion leaders” who will agree to receive regular e-mails from the district and pass the content along to others.

“It’s a way to get the facts about important issues in our district directly into the hands of people who will read it and will hopefully better understand and be able to talk to others about it,” said Melanie Rose, district spokeswoman.

Anyone wiling to join the network will receive e-mails, likely once a month, from the district, and be asked to share the information with neighbors, friends and colleagues.

Though anyone is invited to join, the district is working to identify groups of people who may interested, including elected officials, business leaders, leaders of service organizations, parents and former educators, Rose said.

“Basically it’s a direct information line from the superintendent to people in the community for anybody who wants to join,” Rose said. “Anyone who pays attention to what’s going on in the community, and wants to be informed,” and is willing to pass it along.

In addition to a monthly e-mail addressing one district issue, the district will also send out a notice for other issues or events.

“We’re not going to flood them; we’re going to do our best to be selective,” about what information is disseminated, Rose said.

Rose said she had three e-mails from individuals interested in joining, and the district plans to send letters out to elected officials and other leaders in the community who may be interested this week.
