DePell, Scotties beat Cougs

Jessie DePell had 25 points and eight steals as Freeman defeated host Chewelah 54-46 in a non-league game Friday night.

DePell took over the game in the third quarter for the Scotties (2-0), scoring 13 points and hitting three 3-pointers in a matchup between the runners-up of the State 1A and 2A tournaments in March.

Jochelle Schatz led the State 2A finalist Cougars (1-1) with 13 points, and Bryn Smith added seven assists.

In other non-league action, Laura Gibson scored 18 points to lead Deer Park (2-0) to a 56-35 victory over Cascade at Leavenworth, Wash. Erica Bland scored 24 of 35 points for the Bruins. … Maria Barranco carried Newport with 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 45-39 victory over visiting Colville. Ashley McDonald added 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies (1-3). Shayd Urhausen led the Indians (0-2) with 11 points. … Medical Lake jumped out to a 24-4 first-quarter lead on its way to a 56-37 victory over host Omak. Richelle Daily led the Cardinals (1-0) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Caitlin Smith had 21 points.

Kelsey Stillar hit four 3-pointers and had 28 points and five steals as Lakeside routed visiting Kettle Falls 62-26 at Nine Mile Falls. Kia Gibson added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (2-1), while Tori Tracy led the Bulldogs (1-1) with nine points. … Jordan Harazin had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists as Colfax (2-0) defeated visiting Tekoa-Oakesdale 64-42. Casey Smith hit 7 of 8 free throws and scored 12 points to lead the Nighthawks (3-1). … Six Colton players scored in double figures as the Wildcats set a single-game school scoring record with a 91-42 rout of visiting Waitsburg. Sammie Druffel led Colton (1-0) with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Rochelle Druffel added 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Cara Broderick (14 points), Courtney Druffel (13 points, nine rebounds), Ashley Nygreen (11 points) and Alisa Moehrle (10 points, five rebounds, seven assists) also hit double digits.

Steven Carson had 17 points and 12 rebounds as Inchelium defeated visiting Curlew 43-35 in the Panorama League opener for both teams. Destiny Christianson came off the bench in the first quarter and keyed an early run with four points to give the Hornets (3-0, 1-0) a 16-4 lead on their way to their second victory over the Cougars (1-2, 0-1) in eight days. Nichole Miller led Curlew with 16 points. … Jessee Rouse scored 16 points and Kerry Blake added 15 as St. George’s defeated visiting Springdale (0-3, 0-1) 51-44. Lauren Meyer came off the bench for the Dragons (3-1, 1-0) and had seven points and seven rebounds. … Samantha Flett scored 17 points and Lainie Arnoux added 14 as Wellpinit (2-0, 1-0) hit nine 3-pointers and held off host Republic 63-60. Ann-Marie Hunt scored 10 points to lead Lind-Ritzville (1-1, 1-0) to a 45-27 victory over visiting Almira/Coulee-Hartline in the Bi-County League opener for both teams. Timi Winfrey scored 10 for the Warriors (0-2, 0-1), who trailed 23-9 at halftime. Kaitlyn Reidt scored eight points in the fourth quarter and Wilbur-Creston (2-1, 1-0) outscored Davenport 17-2 in the quarter en route to a 35-29 victory in Wilbur. Darci Dehn scored 14 to lead the Gorillas (0-1, 0-1), who scored just six second-half points. … Cami Bullock had 10 points and eight rebounds as Liberty defeated visiting Northwest Christian 44-36 in Spangle. Jessica Mangis added eight points and seven rebounds for the Lancers (1-0, 1-0), who outscored the Crusaders 27-12 in the second half.
