Oh, it’s just more people calling Paris their pet peeve

The Spokesman-Review

British songstress Joss Stone is the best celebrity pet parent and Paris Hilton is the worst, according to an online vote by readers of two dog magazines.

Stone, an 18-year-old soul singer who has a poodle named Dusty Springfield, volunteered for the North Shore Animal League America and recorded a public service announcement after seeing images of pets stranded in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.

“Joss is a huge advocate for shelter dogs, and it’s not just talk,” said Leslie Padgett, editor of The New York Dog and The Hollywood Dog magazines.

Stone narrowly edged out Ashley Olsen, who adopted a mixed-breed mutt from a New York shelter, and L.A. pug owner/activist Tori Spelling.

As for Hilton, Padgett said: “First she loses (her Chihuahua) Tinkerbell, then she ditches her for a cuter dog, then replaces that dog with a ferret, then a kinkajou monkey and then, I gather, a goat.

“Recently Tinkerbell was spotted back in Paris’ arms. But how long will she be in favor this time?”

I duet

Country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood got hitched Saturday in a private ceremony at their Oklahoma home.

Brooks, 43, and Yearwood, 41, exchanged vows in front of relatives. It’s his second marriage, her third.

Yearwood was Brooks’ opening act on his first headlining tour and sang backup vocals on most of his albums. They shared a Grammy in 1997 for best country collaboration with vocals for “In Another’s Eyes.”

His hunting days are over

Matt Damon and girlfriend Luciana Bozan also quietly tied the knot over the weekend.

Damon, 35, and Bozan, 29, exchanged wedding vows during a small ceremony at New York’s City Hall on Friday, with Bozan’s 7-year-old daughter acting as witness. Damon buddy Ben Affleck was not on hand.

It was the first marriage for Damon and the second for former bartender Bozan, who reportedly is pregnant. They will split their time between homes in New York and Florida.

Nicole simplifies life

Meanwhile, Nicole Richie and her fiance, Adam Goldstein, have called off their nine-month engagement.

Richie, co-star of the reality series “The Simple Life,” and Goldstein, a professional club DJ, had dated for a year before becoming engaged last February.

Richie, the 24-year-old daughter of R&B crooner Lionel Richie, will begin shooting the fourth season of “Simple Life” for E! television early next year along with former pal Paris Hilton, with whom she’s been feuding.

Hilton announced in October that she was ending her own engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis.

Paris, you dog

Finally, let’s all pity poor Mary-Kate Olsen, who has taken a leave of absence from New York University to recover from former friend Paris Hilton‘s alleged theft of her former boyfriend, Stavros Niarchos.

“I’ve pretty much been with someone my whole life, so this is a hard time for me,” says Olsen, 19, adding: “I need to … read scripts and go on auditions, because that’s what makes me happy. You know? Like, papers don’t really make me happy.”
