Man jailed after fight at party

One man was hospitalized with a stab wound and police arrested another man on a charge of first-degree assault at a New Year’s Eve party Friday night in Spokane Valley.

The 30-year-old victim was in stable condition Saturday night after surgery, police said.

Spokane Valley police officers had been called to a home at 13719 E. 21st shortly before midnight, and learned while on their way that a stabbing victim was being taken to a Valley medical center, according to a police department news release.

Officers split up between the hospital and the home, where they found a large number of partiers and the front windows of the house shattered, police said.

Police said a fight erupted during the party between the victim, a resident of the home, and another man, Michael A. Kannall, 21. Kannall stabbed the other man, cutting his own hand in the process, police said.

Two other men were treated for minor injuries suffered during the altercation.

Kannall was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of first-degree assault, police said.
