Salute the world’s Kelley girls

The Spokesman-Review

My husband and I are both basketball fans and I enjoy going to local high school games, particularly Central Valley High School, since I attended there. We attended some of the boys games last year and most of last year’s girls games.

I read (staff writer) Mike Vlahovich’s Dec. 1 rundown of the GSL girls teams. In the article, Vlahovich states how CV shouldn’t be counted out since it returned all but one player. I agree with him on one point – they shouldn’t be counted out. However, the statement that they return all but one player is wrong. It struck a bad note with me since last year I read several articles saying there was only one senior on that team. There were actually two. Obviously one was Reagan Pariseau, a player whom the GSL may never see the likes of again. The senior they missed was the other co-captain, Rhonda Kelley. It’s a shame because if you ever watched Rhonda play, you would have seen that she was a good, solid, talented player who more than held her own despite being a little short for her position. I also noticed in the regional scorebook she was the top scorer behind the five starters.

Anyway, I wrote this for all the Rhonda Kelleys out there who are overlooked. I know you do not know me, Rhonda, but we want you to know there were an awful lot of us at the games who did notice you and enjoyed watching you play. Thank you for representing CV so well and making us proud alumni.
