Second-oldest gun club in U.S. considers move

Associated Press

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Gun Club is moving to a new home.

Members of the second-oldest gun club in the United States are exploring a new location south of Lewiston, with a tentative deal for 50 acres, club president Frank Williams of Lewiston said.

If the club receives the required permits, it will move from its location at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport to what is now Gabby Farms.

A county Planning and Zoning Commission hearing on the proposed conditional-use permit is scheduled for Jan. 18.

The club was founded in 1881 and was believed to be the oldest gun club in continuous operation in the nation. Club members recently learned of another gun club in Florida that predates the Lewiston club by a few years.
