This handsome boy is listed as a Labrador retriever-St. Bernard cross. He has been at the shelter since Oct. 21.

He was adopted once and returned after two weeks. His previous owners said he was food aggressive but good with kids, which tells me that he likes to eat in peace and quiet in a room without other dogs. It is a small concession to make for a dog that works very hard at doing exactly what you want him to do.

He knows several commands, including sit, lie down and shake. We took him for a walk outside, and he heeled perfectly. The leash was just an accessory to his beautiful brown and white coat.

If you want to see what a well-trained shelter dog looks like, come and meet Jelly. He is in Kennel 2, Cage 44, at the Humane Society of Spokane, 6607 N. Havana St.

The telephone number is 467-5235. Adoption fees are $84 if you live in the city, $80 if you live outside the city, and include vaccinations, neutering and license. The Humane Society is open seven days a week.
