Horn headed for Oregon

Rogers High tight end Levi Horn announced Wednesday he will accept a football scholarship to the University of Oregon for next fall.

“It’s a Pac-10 school,” Horn said of why he picked Oregon. “I wanted the chance to play Pac-10 football. And Oregon recruited me as a tight end, which is where I want to play.”

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Horn led all Greater Spokane League tight ends in receiving yards with 429 and was second in receptions with 33, resulting in two touchdowns for the 1-9 Pirates. A first-team All-GSL selection, he was also named to the Associated Press 4A All-State first team.

“Of course, it was less than what I wanted because I wanted my team to win,” Horn said of the Pirates’ season.

“We did all the things we could to feature him in our offense,” said Rogers offensive coordinator Matt Miethe. “He was a player that, if we got him the ball, he did good things with it.

“He was also as good a run blocker as he was a receiver and that’s what’s I think is going to eventually happen to him at Oregon: He will turn into an offensive lineman or a defensive lineman.”

Horn weighed offers from the University of Idaho and Oregon before deciding on the Ducks.

Horn said Oregon started showing interest about a month ago. He visited both schools, but was impressed with the Ducks’ facilities.

The first day high school seniors may sign letters-of-intent for football is Wednesday.

“I can’t wait,” Horn said.
