Maryland deals Duke its first loss of season

For once, Duke ran out of magic, leaving only two unbeaten teams in Division I.

Nik Caner-Medley had 25 points before leaving with an ankle injury, and his Maryland (12-5, 3-3 ACC) teammates finished off the second-ranked Blue Devils (15-1, 5-1) at the free-throw line in a 75-66 victory Wednesday night at Durham, N.C.

Ekene Ibekwe gave the Terrapins the lead for good with a tough layup in traffic off an inbounds play with 1:23 left.

J.J. Redick led the Blue Devils with 20 points.

Northwestern 75, (23) Iowa 74 (OT): At Evanston, Ill., Michael Jenkins’ 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer hit the rim, bounced high and fell through and gave the Wildcats (9-9, 2-4 Big Ten) a victory over the Hawkeyes (14-5, 2-4). Vedran Vukusic had a career-high 32 points for Northwestern. Greg Brunner had a career-high 28 points for Iowa.

(8) Boston College 78, Providence 75: Jared Dudley scored 21 points and hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 left to give the Eagles (17-0, 6-0, Big East) the lead, and Boston remained undefeated with a victory over the Friars (9-9, 0-5) at Providence, R.I. Craig Smith also scored 21 points for the Eagles. Donnie McGrath led Providence with 17 points.

(12) Louisville 99, Marquette 52: At Louisville, Ky., Larry O’Bannon made six 3-pointers and scored 30 points, both career highs, to help the Cardinals (17-3, 5-1 CUSA) hand the Golden Eagles (14-5, 2-4) their most-lopsided loss.

(14) Alabama 60, Auburn 55: Earnest Shelton scored 22 points and made five late 3s at Auburn, Ala., to lead the Crimson Tide (16-3, 5-1 SEC) over the Tigers (9-9, 0-5).

(6) Notre Dame 72, St. John’s 65: At South Bend, Ind., Crystal Erwin had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Megan Duffy added 14 points and 10 assists, leading the Irish (17-3, 5-2 Big East) over the Red Storm (14-4, 3-4).
