Chesrown buys Brundage Block building

Developer Marshall Chesrown will run sales and marketing efforts for Kendall Yards — a residential and commercial development planned for 77 acres on the north bank of the Spokane River — from a downtown Spokane building he recently purchased.

Chesrown paid $575,000 for the 6,500-square-foot Brundage Block building at 110 N. Post.

The building was built in 1890 and, over the years, has served as a hotel, a bicycle repair shop, a shoe store and a clothing store, according to the city’s Historic Preservation Department. The building’s most recent occupant was The Children’s Museum.

“It’s a wonderful building,” said Kitty Archer, the real estate agent who represented the seller, Dolney-Geier Partnership. Archer also handled the sale when the previous owner bought the building in 1986 for $335,000.

“It’s really the last little boutique building left,” Archer said. “What makes it unique is it has an elevator.”

Kendall Yards is planned as an urban village which will include 1,000 residences units and 1.5 million square feet of office and retail space. It is being designed as a pedestrian-friendly community that will tie into downtown amenities and recreational trails.

Chesrown paid $12.8 million in January for the land in a Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities bankruptcy auction. The land previously was known as the Summit property.
