NIC softball, WSU swimming receive academic honors

The North Idaho College softball team and Washington State women’s swimming team have earned national academic recognition.

With a 3.16 team grade-point average, the NIC softball team was named Spring Academic Team of the Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

In addition, third baseman Erin Johnson from Coeur d’Alene (Lake City), who graduated from NIC in May, was named an NJCAA Academic All-American with a 3.71 GPA in psychology.

The WSU women’s swimming team finished third in the nation with a 3.57 GPA in the spring according to the College Swimming Coaches Association. It’s the sixth straight semester under coach Erica Quam the Cougars have had a top-four finish.

Three Cougars – sophomores Erin McCleave (3.78 GPA) and Kayli Changstrom (3.66) and junior Jane Copeland (3.51) – were honorable mention all-academic.
