Mr. G’s open in Greenacres Shopping Center

The old Greenacres Shopping Center is showing signs of new life.

With a host of homes being built just a few miles away, Mr. G’s is starting to attract some locals.

“We’re getting the Liberty Lake crowd in,” said Tammi Young, a 42-year-old co-owner of Mr. G’s.

She and her fiancée and business partner Greg Phillips, 62, also own Yardley Bar and Grill, at Fancher Road and Sharp Avenue.

The couple renovated the kitchen, put in new carpeting and floors and updated two restrooms before opening in June.

“We worked five and a half weeks, seven days a week for 14 hours a day to get this thing open,” Young said.

The pub has two pool tables, a dartboard and a big screen TV. Weekends draw a karaoke crowd.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner items include foods that were proven hits at five other bar and grills that Phillips once owned, including two previous versions of Mr. G’s.

Those restaurants operated in Rathdrum, Idaho and Spokane Valley, at the old Plantation Inn for a decade spanning the 1970s to the 1980s.

Specials include a 10-ounce rib steak, baked potato, salad and garlic toast for $8.95. Lunches feature reuben, Monterey chicken, French dip, Monte Cristo, Philly cheese steak, club and other sandwiches.

Young said the full breakfast menu has “biscuits and gravy that are to die for.”

The pub, at 18115 E. Appleway, serves beer, wine and hard liquor and is open Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. For more information, call 928-9404.

Mexican store opens in Greenacres

Saabedras Mexican Store recently opened with a mix of imported sodas, seasonings, hot sauces, candies and clothing.

Store owners Rakuel and Antonio Saabedras moved to the United States from Guadalajara, Mexico, about 30 years ago.

“They had a business before in Mexico, a butcher shop where they sold meat and fish,” said Baltazar Marentes, Rakuel Saabedras’ brother.

Marentes acted as a translator for the Spanish-speaking couple, saying they sold items at swap meets while living in Seattle. Once in Spokane Valley they opened the store.

In addition to foods, the shop carries piñatas, blankets, shoes, music CDs and lacy party dresses.

Word is spreading about the shop, which is starting to see more customers, Marentes said.

“We are Latino. You tell some people, and other people will tell everybody,” he said.

Saabedras Mexican Store, 18323 E. Appleway, is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 927-4449.

Studio 525 has new owners

Meghan Suda recently purchased Studio 525 with her scissor-less spouse, Matt Suda.

“It’s just working out really well,” Meghan Suda said.

Suda added skin care services, which are offered in a draped off area for clients interested in obtaining a youthful glow.

“We did change a lot. We repainted the whole place, and just kind of rearranged everything,” she said.

Although the salon’s inner appearance has changed, the 26-year-old Spokane Valley resident said it will continue to offer friendly, personalized service.

Studio 525, at 520 S. Pines Road, is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and by appointment. For more information, call 922-0525.
