Gellhorn to be honored at KPBX event

The Spokesman-Review

Late Spokane arts patron Katherine Gellhorn will be remembered at KPBX-FM’s 15th annual “An Evening Under the Stars” tonight at Arbor Crest Winery.

The Swiss-born Gellhorn, a tireless supporter of the local arts who died in 1997, founded the KPBX fund-raising event. She was a professional hat designer who was rarely seen without one; those attending tonight are encouraged to wear hats in her memory, and there will be a contest for the best hat.

This year’s activities also include music by the Riverside Trio (classical) and Pamela McGuire Quartet (jazz), a dinner buffet by Catered For You, a silent auction and wine tasting.

It all begins at 6 p.m. and continues until 10 at the Spokane Valley winery, 4705 N. Fruithill Road. Tickets are $32 ($29 for Spokane Public Radio members), available by calling 328-5729 or (800) 328-5729. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Piano at Panida

Sandpoint’s Panida Theater will celebrate its 20th anniversary as a performing arts center with a free concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. by pianist Adam Tendler.

Tendler, who graduated last year from the Indiana University School of Music, has embarked on a tour titled “America 88X50,” with the goal of performing in all 50 states. He will play works by Charles Ives, Charles Griffes, Alberto Ginastera and Aaron Copland.

The Panida, a former movie theater, reopened on July 25, 1985 with a show by the New Old Time Chautauqua.
