Hedge House restaurant to reopen

From staff reports

The longtime owner of the Hedge House restaurant and bar has taken back the business and plans to reopen it in two to three weeks.

Linda Brazington and her husband, Jack Brazington, acquired the restaurant after the bankruptcy filing of its previous owners, Jerald Stearns and Patricia Stearns, said Jack Brazington.

Linda Brazington owned the business from 1983 until 1997, he said. It’s located at 2606 N. Monroe.

The Stearnses filed for bankruptcy protection in March, court records show.

Brazington said the Hedge House has been closed for about a month for refurbishing.

When it reopens, the Hedge House will feature a new, less-expensive menu, Brazington said. It will employ eight to 10 people.

The restaurant has been in business since the 1940s and originally was called Madge’s Hedge House after its founder, Brazington said.

SBA announces new programs

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced last month two new programs to help groups of small-business owners snag contracts from federal, state and local government agencies and large corporations.

The agency said it will “begin the necessary steps” to set up a woman-owned small-business contracting program. Those steps include defining eligibility requirements for being considered a woman-owned small business.

The SBA also has set up a new office to help small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans get better access to federal contracts.
