Three area pools open Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

The swim season kicks off Saturday with the opening of Spokane Valley’s three public pools.

The Spokane Valley YMCA will run the pools and swim classes this summer. Spokane County managed the pools in previous years but chose not to renew its contract with the city.

“For those returning, it’s going to look the same as last year,” said Steve Jurich, director of the Spokane Valley YMCA.

American Red Cross swimming lessons will start Monday. Sessions last two weeks and classes are held Monday through Friday in the mornings and evenings at Valley Mission, Terrace View and Park Road pools. Classes are for all ages and abilities and cost $25.

Registrations for the first session are being accepted today, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Valley Mission Pool, 11123 E. Mission Ave.; Terrace View Pool, 13252 E. 24th Ave., and Park Road Pool, 1906 N. Park Road.

To find out about assistance toward swim fees, call the Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department at 688-0182. For information on swim lessons or recreational swim times, call the YMCA at 777-9622.
