Red Sox 9, Indians 2: At Cleveland, David Ortiz homered twice and drove in four runs, and Bronson Arroyo scattered four hits to lead Boston over Cleveland.

Orioles 9, Blue Jays 5: Geronimo Gil homered twice, and Eli Marrero homered and drove in three runs to lead Baltimore to a victory over Toronto.

Tigers 7, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Jeremy Bonderman pitched his first complete game of the season and Detroit handed Minnesota its eighth loss in 11 games.

White Sox 5, Royals 1: At Chicago, Jon Garland allowed four hits over 8 1/3 innings and became the major league’s first 12-game winner as Chicago beat Kansas City.

Yankees 20, Devil Rays 11: At New York, the Yankees broke loose for 13 runs in the eighth behind Bernie Williams and Gary Sheffield, overcoming an early eight-run deficit to beat Tampa Bay. Williams had a bases-loaded triple, and Sheffield had a pair of three-run homers and seven RBIs.

Angels 8, Rangers 6: At Anaheim, Calif., Dallas McPherson drove in three runs, Darin Erstad had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, and Los Angeles beat Texas.

National League

Reds 11, Cardinals 4: At Cincinnati, backup catcher Javier Valentin drove in four runs with a three-run homer and a bases-loaded walk to help Cincinnati to a victory over St. Louis in Jerry Narron’s debut as interim manager of the Reds.

Mets 8, Phillies 5: At Philadelphia, Doug Mientkiewicz and Brian Daubach homered, leading New York to a victory over Philadelphia.

Pirates 11, Nationals 4: At Pittsburgh, Matt Lawton homered and drove in five runs as Pittsburgh won for only the second time in nine games, beating Washington.

Cubs 4, Brewers 2: At Milwaukee, Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez hit home runs, and Jerome Williams won his Chicago debut in a victory over Milwaukee.

Astros 6, Rockies 5: At Houston, Lance Berkman hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh inning, helping Houston earn a win over lowly Colorado.

Braves 5, Marlins 0: At Atlanta, John Smoltz pitched his first shutout in six years and Andruw Jones hit his 20th homer as Atlanta beat Florida.

Padres 2, Dodgers 1: At San Diego, Woody Williams threw 6 2/3 solid innings for his first victory in nearly two months, as San Diego had Los Angeles a season-high eighth straight loss.

Diamondbacks 6, Giants 4: At San Francisco, Chad Tracy hit a two-run homer in the sixth and Arizona ended its five-game skid with a win over San Francisco.
