RiverHawks’ skid hits six

Kyle Cline (2-0) scattered four hits in eight innings and Brian Burmester went 3 for 4 as the Kitsap BlueJackets (6-3, 4-2) handed the Spokane RiverHawks their sixth straight loss, a 6-0 decision in West Coast Collegiate League play at Bremerton, Wash.

Spokane (3-7, 2-6) begins at three-game series tonight in Gresham, Ore., against the Aloha Knights (8-5, 2-0).

Gonzaga University’s Darin Holcomb (Shadle Park High) and Shawn Wayt play for Aloha. Wayt leads the team with a .382 batting average and Holcomb is hitting .320.

Soccer

The Spokane Shadow can close within one point of first place in the Premier Development League’s Northwest Division with a win tonight over the Cascade Surge at Salem, Ore.

Cascade (7-0-1, 22 points) owns 4-3 and 5-2 wins over Spokane (6-4-0, 18) this season.

The Shadow won’t play another division match until July 9. Spokane welcomes Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer for an exhibition match at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Albi Stadium.

Prep baseball

Chewelah’s A.J. Proszek was named Class 2A player of the year by the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association, in cooperation with the Skagit Valley Herald newspaper of Mount Vernon.

Justin Cooper and Kyle Hinrichs of State 2A champion Pullman also made the all-state team.

Named to all-state second teams were Cameron Joslyn of 4A Mt. Spokane and Jye Lanphere of 3A East Valley. Casey Brett of Ferris (4A) and Greg Bradley of West Valley (3A) were named honorable mention.

College volleyball

Lewis-Clark State College head coach Jerry Pruitt resigned after 1 1/2 years to accept a high school position in Utah.

Pruitt, who served as assistant coach at Gonzaga University for 1 1/2 years prior to coming to LCSC, compiled an 18-21 record. He took over the Warriors in October 2003, after Jason Zoeteman resigned.
