Woman tries to pass forged prescriptions
A 50-year-old Spokane Valley woman was arrested Sunday after attempting to pass counterfeit prescriptions at a grocery store pharmacy.
The suspect attempted to pass two prescription – one for Loricet and another for Lortabs – at the Safeway pharmacy, 1441 N. Argonne Road, said Cpl. Dave Reagan, Spokane Valley Police spokesman.
Employees at the pharmacy called police about 5 p.m. after the woman presented the prescriptions, which Officer Mike McNees later determined she had printed on her home computer using the name of a doctor out of the phone book.
As the woman attempted to pass the prescriptions Sunday, a pharmacy employee recalled that she had successfully used a counterfeit prescription at the store Jan. 16. A follow-up with the doctor’s office named on that prescription revealed that it was a forgery, Reagan said.
On Sunday Linda S. Wirchak told McNees she went to prison in 2000 for several counts of prescription fraud, but had managed to stay off the addictive painkillers until a recent relapse.
Wirchak was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of prescription forgery, Reagan said.
