Children’s Chorus, SYO present concert

The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane Youth Orchestra and Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will celebrate the planets and the seasons on Saturday at St. John’s Cathedral.

“The Human Journey” will feature one of the most popular pieces of classical music – “The Planets” by Gustav Holst – along with “The Sun’s Journey,” a work by his daughter, Imogen Holst, that represents the four seasons.

The concert begins Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the cathedral, 127 E. 12th Ave. Advance tickets are $10 for adults ($12 at the door), $5 for students, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Starting at 6:30 p.m., young concertgoers can try out musical instruments for themselves, under the guidance of orchestra members, in a Musical Petting Zoo.

String Quartet at CenterStage

The Spokane String Quartet will perform Bartok’s lively 3rd Quartet and Dvorak’s haunting Quartet in G Major, op. 106, in an “On the Edge of Spring” dinner concert Sunday at CenterStage, 1017 W. First.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner service starting at 5:30 and the music at 7. Tickets are $43 for the dinner and concert; “show only” tickets are $22 for adults, $15 for students with ID.
