Taiwan to protest

Associated Press

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Taiwan’s vice president announced on a visit here Wednesday that his nation would soon stage a “gigantic” protest against China’s authorization of the use of military force in its dispute with Taiwan.

China enacted a law Monday allowing an attack on Taiwan if the island pursues formal independence. China insists the measure is meant to promote peaceful unification.

“On March 26 we will have a gigantic demonstration through the streets of Taipei, whose purpose will be to call the world’s attention and demonstrate that Taiwan is a country that wants and loves peace and liberty,” Vice President Annette Lu said.
