School levy on Post Falls ballot

From staff reports

The Post Falls School District will ask voters Tuesday to approve a $1.75 million levy.

Population growth and increasing property values could allow the district to collect $300,000 more than the expiring levy without raising the tax rate, Superintendent Jerry Keane said.

If approved, the levy amounts to $875,000 per year. About half of that will be spent on maintenance projects like replacing school roofs, lighting fixtures, carpet and playground equipment.

The district plans to spend $120,000 of levy money each year on technology, $200,000 on textbooks and materials, and $100,000 on programs to help struggling students.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Frederick Post KinderCenter, Seltice Elementary, Ponderosa Elementary, Prairie View Elementary and Post Falls Middle School.

Also on Tuesday, the Lake Pend Oreille School District will try to pass a $6.44 million supplemental levy for staffing, technology, textbooks, extracurricular activities and maintenance of school facilities. About $3.22 million would be collected each year of the levy.

The owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 would pay about $121 a year if the levy passes. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Sandpoint and Clark Fork high schools and the district’s elementaries.
