Dear Heloise: For pets needing some exercise, try a laser-pointer pen (often used in presentations and can be found at office-supply stores – H). I have a golden retriever and two cats who absolutely love it! Also, it is a great gift idea for an elderly family member who wants to play with his or her pet but has a hard time picking up the pet’s toys. – Sandy Burkett, via e-mail
