Benefit drama planned at Salem

Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W. Broadway Ave., is hosting the West Central Ministries Players Sunday at 2 p.m.

The players will perform a readers’ theater dramatization of “On Golden Pond.”

The event, which will include a refreshment buffet and raffle items, will benefit Our Place Community Ministries, a faith-based organization that helps low-income families.

Admission is $15 and can be paid at the door.

Choir concert

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting its Cathedral Choir at 4 p.m. Sunday.

This is the fourth in a series of concerts the church is offering on the second Sunday of every month.

The choir will perform music from Gabriel Fauré, Herbert Howells and Thomas Barthelmess, the cathedral’s lead tenor.

Before the concert, the church will open its doors to anyone interested in taking a tour from noon to 4 p.m.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Tsunami relief lecture

Anna Schowengerdt, a graduate of Whitworth College, will speak about her experiences as part of Catholic Relief Services response to the tsunami disaster.

Schowengerdt, who served in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday in the Kubiak Theater of Gonzaga Preparatory School, 1224 E. Euclid Ave.

Book signing

The Rev. Joseph Conwell, former chairman of the theology department at Gonzaga University, will read from his books, “A Brief and Exact Account: The Recollections of Simao Rodrigues on the Origin and Progress of the Society of Jesus” and “Walking in the Spirit: A Reflection on Jeronimo Nadal’s Phrase ‘Contemplative Likewise in Action,’ ” at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.

Conwell will answer questions and sign books.

Church dedication and speaker

The Rev. Jim Rosemergy will speak on “The Prayer That God Pray” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Road.

Rosemergy is the author of “The Transcendent Life,” “A Closer Walk with God,” and “The Sacred Human,” and served as the minister of Unity Church of Truth on the South Hill.

He will also be at the new church for its services at 10 a.m. Sunday and during the church’s official dedication at 2 p.m.

“ St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, 428 W. 19th Ave., is celebrating Pentecost at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Spiritual seminars

Ancient Traditions Community Church, 1928 E. Rich Ave., is offering two seminars about spirituality this week.

The first, “Toltec Teachings for Strategic Living,” will discuss ancient Toltec teachings to reveal the path to living a rich and full life. It will meet every Tuesday from now until June 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
