Bloomberg has spent $10 million on race

Associated Press

NEW YORK – Mayor Michael Bloomberg has spent $9.9 million of his own money on his re-election campaign so far, a signal that the billionaire will spare no expense in November’s mayoral race and may even exceed the $74 million he spent in his successful 2001 bid for office.

In the past two months, Bloomberg has spent $5.6 million – just shy of the $5.7 million that his Democratic rivals are each allowed to spend before the Sept. 13 primary. The four Democrats are subject to spending caps because they accept public money.

More than half the money Bloomberg has spent has gone to a roster of well-paid political consultants, according to a Campaign Finance Board disclosure report due Monday but released to reporters Friday.
