Compiled from news services

Sarah Hyatt blooped a single into center field to score Jessica Wilkinson in the sixth inning and the Washington Huskies went on to post a 2-0 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA women’s softball regional championship game at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., on Sunday.

The victory sends the No. 16 Huskies (34-20) into the Super Regional where they will open against No. 1 Michigan on Friday at a site yet to be determined.

Washington senior Ashley Boek (20-12) allowed just one hit in a complete-game effort. Dominique Lastrapes had four hits and drove in the Huskies’ other run, also in the sixth inning.

The lone hit for Iowa (50-14) was a slow-roller down the third-base line by Jenna Sprat in the third inning.

“It was a well-played ballgame,” said Washington coach Heater Tarr. “Ashley threw a great game… almost threw a no-hitter and did a great job defensively. Sarah’s hit up the middle to score Jessica was solid and whatever we had to do to score runs today, we did it.”
