His only regret is not choosing Soon-Yi sooner

Woody Allen says he took too long to leave Mia Farrow after starting an affair with her adopted daughter. “Probably in retrospect I should have bowed out of that relationship much earlier than I did,” Allen, 69, tells Vanity Fair magazine.

In 1992, Allen admitted to having a passionate love affair with the then-22-year-old Soon-Yi Previn, whom he married five years later.

“It was just completely fortuitous. One of the truly lucky things that happened to me in my life,” he says, adding that their relationship has “got a more paternal feeling to it.”

As for Farrow, he says that when he was casting “Mighty Aphrodite” in 1994, he considered offering her the role of his wife – which went to Helena Bonham Carter instead.

“I’m just not the kind of person that thinks, ‘Well, you did a terrible thing to me in my life, and so I’m not working with you,’ ” says Allen, who made 13 films with Farrow.

“I mean, there’s a line that you draw. I wouldn’t put, you know, Hermann Goring in a part, but short of Nuremberg crimes …”

Wanna bet who’ll end up with emotional problems?

Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger, embroiled in a bitter battle over terms of their child custody agreement, each is claiming that the other has serious emotional problems.

Baldwin contends in court papers that Basinger “has a pathological need” to turn their 10-year-old daughter, Ireland, against him, and is asking for a psychological evaluation of the actress.

But her lawyer says: “We believe that Mr. Baldwin has severe emotional problems.”

The couple married in 1993, separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002.

Getting in tuna with her feelings

Jessica Simpson says the relentless gossip about problems in her marriage to Nick Lachey drove her to visit a therapist.

“Yes I have,” the 25-year-old singer-actress tells Teen People magazine. “I respect knowledge of the psyche. I would be a therapist if I weren’t an entertainer.”

She adds: “Hopefully mine and Nick’s story will continue for the rest of our lives, like what we vowed, through sickness and in health.”

The sad state of Gabrielle’s union

Actress Gabrielle Union and her husband have separated after four years of marriage.

Union, 32, married Chris Howard, a former NFL running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, in 2001.

She currently stars in ABC’s “Night Stalker.” Her screen credits include roles in “The Honeymooners,” “Bad Boys II,” “Deliver Us From Eva” and the upcoming “Running With Scissors.”

When the fire went out, they both got burned

Kenny Chesney says his music has helped him deal with the breakup of his four-month marriage to “Bridget Jones” actress Renee Zellweger.

“It’s like medicine – and obviously I need that now,” the 37-year-old country singer tells Life magazine.

Chesney says he learned he needs to be more patient: ” ‘I need it all, and I need it now’ was my mentality before. I used to rush everything to get it done.”

Including marriage?

His reply: “What was that old song: ‘We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout’?”
