CdA defense stifles Eagle; freshman Griffitts leads offense

Deanna Dotts had 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots as Coeur d’Alene routed visiting Eagle 51-30 in a non-league girls basketball game Saturday.

Freshman Kama Griffitts led the Vikings (2-2) with 12 points and Jenna DeLong added 10. CdA shut out Eagle in the first quarter and held a 25-8 halftime lead.

Cara Hayman‘s only points of the game proved to be key for Wallace as her lay-up with 40 seconds left sealed a 33-29 victory over visiting Kellogg in the Silver Valley Tournament championship. Krista Williams led the Miners (2-0) with 11 points, while Marrisa Bush put up the same total for the Wildcats (2-3). … Saturday’s consolation game between Timberlake and Bonners Ferry was not reported at press time.

Katie Hoye had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Post Falls Christian (2-2) to a 52-31 rout of Mullan (0-2) in the consolation game of the Mullan tournament. Bev Hammond had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers, and Katlyn Valerio added 15 points and nine steals. … Saturday’s championship game between Kootenai and Lakeside (Plummer) was not reported at press time.

Nick Ashley ran for 226 yards and three second-quarter touchdowns to lead defending B-11 champion Lind-Ritzville to a 49-13 victory over Orcas Island in Mount Vernon, Wash.
