ANALYSIS
Mismatches are rare in the NFL, but this one has all the makings. The 49ers have been held without a touchdown in four of their nine games and they’ve gone without an offensive touchdown in six contests. They rank last in the NFL on offense and defense. They’re the league’s worst passing team and worst pass-defense unit. They’ve had the misfortune of playing consecutively against Indianapolis, Washington, Tampa Bay, the New York Giants, Chicago and now the white-hot Seahawks. Ken Dorsey, who will get the start, has a passer rating of 47. Cody Pickett, fresh from a 1-for-13 effort, is at 28.3 and No. 1 pick Alex Smith is at 17.5, which would be fine if that were his scoring average for the Golden State Warriors. San Francisco’s defensive stats aren’t as bad as they appear, mainly because an inept offense has taken 149 fewer snaps than opponents. The only way this stays close is if Seattle loses focus and that shouldn’t happen with the team driving for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Another big day for Alexander, Hasselbeck and Co. as Seattle wins six straight games for the first time since 1984.
Prediction: Seahawks 29-13.
