Churches plan Advent activities

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it’s time to take a breath and move on to Advent, the month of preparation leading up to Christmas.

“Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host a weekly Advent dinner beginning Wednesday. The dinners will be held each Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through Dec. 21 at the church, 115 N. Raymond Road. Topics to be addressed include the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Mission Dollars at Work, Jesus’ Birthday Party and Living Your Faith.

Each evening will include Christmas carol singing in addition to the meal and program. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the meals. Call the church at 924-7262 for more information.

“Millwood Presbyterian Church will host its annual Advent Party Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Families can make Christmas crafts and Advent wreaths, eat goodies and listen to a special Christmas story. Each family is asked to bring a plate of treats to share. Punch will be provided.

The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

Ministry concert

Heidi Reese will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave. She will show video from her time in the former Soviet Union. Donations will be accepted to help fund Reese’s return trip to a children’s shelter in the Belarusian town of Zhodino.
