Livengood pilots Pirates past Cheney

Scott Livengood scored 18 points Tuesday to lead Rogers to a 55-50 victory over visiting Cheney in the boys basketball season opener for both teams.

Livengood, the 2004-05 Greater Spokane League’s leading scorer, hit eight free throws for the Pirates, who won the non-league battle between a pair of GSL teams.

Jesse Gibb scored 13 points to lead the Blackhawks, who were outscored 16-5 in the first quarter.

In other Washington non-league action, David Park scored 18 points and John Hutchins added 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Post Falls Christian (1-0) to an 81-26 rout of visiting St. Michael’s. Ben Czapla scored 14 to lead the Warriors (0-1), who trailed 42-15 at halftime.

Zech Szalasi scored six of St. Maries’ nine overtime points as the Lumberjacks defeated host Kootenai 69-66 in an Idaho non-league game at Harrison. Szalasi led St. Maries (1-0) with 19 points, shooting 10 of 14 from the free-throw line. Anthony Cranford led four Warriors (0-1) in double figures with 15 points, and Jeff Ness added 10 points and five blocks. … Ryan Gallia scored 28 points as Lakeland defeated visiting Bonners Ferry (0-2) 62-54 at Rathdrum.

Girls basketball

Alexis Peterson had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Shadle Park to a 58-29 rout of host Riverside in the non-league season opener for both teams. Lexi Bishop added 14 points for the Highlanders, who led 45-18 after three quarters. Felicia Clark‘s 15 points supplied most of the offense for the Rams. … Sydney Gossard scored 16 points and added nine steals as St. John-Endicott routed Waitsburg 67-38. Ellen Miller scored 13 points and Nicole Schlomer added seven steals for the Eagles (1-0), who outrebounded the Cardinals 36-23. Patty Urann scored 16 points to lead three St. Michael’s players in double figures in a 49-32 win over host Post Falls Christian in a non-league game. Megan Vogel scored 13 and Mary Zver added 12 for the Warriors (0-1). Grace and Emily Bishop led the Eagles (3-3) with eight points apiece. … Courtney Shoemaker scored 16 points as Garfield-Palouse defeated Troy 45-20. Mary Sullins scored seven points to lead the Trojans, who were outscored 25-11 in the second half.
