Post Falls stops LC late, earns OT win

Kandice McArthur scored 14 points and hit nine free throws as Post Falls overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat visiting Lake City 51-42 in overtime Tuesday night in the Inland Empire League girls basketball opener for both teams.

Jenny McVeigh and Sean Topp each scored 11 for the Trojans (2-0, 1-0), who outscored the Timberwolves 24-5 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Freshman Katy Baker scored 11 to lead the Timberwolves (2-3, 0-1), who committed 30 fouls in the game.

In other IEL girls action, freshman Kama Griffitts scored 14 points to lead Coeur d’Alene to a 63-43 victory over visiting Lakeland. Jenna DeLong added 10 points for the Vikings (3-2, 1-0), while Brigitte Boucher led the Hawks (3-1, 0-1) with 10.

Krista Williams scored 18 points to lead Wallace to a 58-39 victory over visiting Timberlake in a non-league game. Heather Moore added 15 for the Miners (3-0), who forced the Tigers (1-4) into 30 turnovers. … Patty Urann scored 16 points to lead three St. Michael’s players in double figures in a 49-32 win over host Post Falls Christian. Megan Vogel scored 13 and Mary Zver added 12 for the Warriors in their season opener. Grace and Emily Bishop led the Eagles (3-3) with eight points apiece.

Boys basketball

Zech Szalasi scored six of St. Maries’ nine overtime points as the Lumberjacks defeated host Kootenai 69-66 in a non-league game at Harrison. Szalasi led St. Maries (1-0) with 19 points, shooting 10 of 14 from the free-throw line. Anthony Cranford led four Warriors (0-1) in double figures with 15 points, and Jeff Ness added 10 points and five blocks. … Ryan Gallia scored 28 points as Lakeland defeated visiting Bonners Ferry (0-2) 62-54 at Rathdrum. Bubba Bartlett added 12 points for the Hawks (2-0). … Coty Reuben scored 27 points as Lapwai routed host Lakeside 95-30 at Plummer. The Wildcats led 57-13 at halftime and held every Knights (0-1) player to less than six points. … David Park scored 18 points and John Hutchins added 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Post Falls Christian (1-0) to an 81-26 rout of visiting St. Michael’s. Ben Czapla scored 14 to lead the Warriors (0-1), who were outscored 39-11 in the second half.
