Eastern blows lead, but beats Idaho in 5

Lizzy Mellor (Colfax High) had 26 kills, 14 digs and five blocks to lead Eastern Washington to a 30-25, 30-26, 28-30, 21-30, 15-11 victory over Idaho in a non-conference volleyball match at Memorial Gym in Moscow.

Addie Webster added 16 kills and 24 digs for the Eagles (13-5), who led 15-4 in the third game before dropping the third and fourth games to the Vandals (10-8).

Haley Larsen led Idaho with 23 kills, and Saxony Brown added 63 assists and 14 digs.

•Mellor (Colfax High) was named co-Big Sky Conference player of the week for her performances against Montana State and Montana over the weekend.

Mellor hit .357 with 42 kills and 10 digs as the Eagles won both matches. She shared the honors with Stephanie Lavigne of Portland State, which plays Eastern Saturday in Portland.

•Natalie Danielson (Community Colleges of Spokane) had 17 kills and five blocks to lead Whitworth to a 30-19, 24-30, 30-19, 30-27 victory over Lewis-Clark State in a non-league match at Lewiston.

Rebekah Hornor (Mead) added 38 assists for the Pirates (13-2), while Tyger Spencer (Lewiston) led the Warriors (2-16) with 14 kills and 12 digs.

Women’s soccer

Lacey Salisbury scored twice, including the winning goal in the 60th minute, to lead North Idaho to a 3-1 victory over the Eastern Washington Reserves in a non-league match at NIC.

Makayla Desjarlais (Post Falls) stopped 12 shots for the Cardinals, who also had a goal from Lara Wessman in the 84th minute.

Golf

Washington State junior Chris Collins shot his second consecutive 72 to earn a 10th-place finish at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.

The Cougars also finished 10th with a team score of 10 over par. Host California (8 under) won the tournament by three strokes.

•Sophomore Renee Skidmore finished in fifth place and the Idaho Vandals finished second at the Bronco Fall Invitational at the BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho.

Skidmore finished 8 over, three strokes behind medalist Megan Stoddart of Santa Clara, and Idaho finished three strokes behind UC Davis and six ahead of third-place Eastern Washington.

Freshman Chloe Nelson (14 over) led the Eagles with a ninth-place finish.
