Senators defeat Lightning to remain unbeaten

Daniel Alfredsson scored a short-handed goal on an odd rebound and the Ottawa Senators remained the Eastern Conference’s only unbeaten team with a 4-1 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night in Tampa, Fla.

Dany Heatley, Chris Neil and Peter Schaefer each had a goal and an assist for Ottawa (6-0-0), while Dominik Hasek stopped 23 shots in 600th career game.

Nashville (6-0-0) is the NHL’s other unbeaten team.

Dmitry Afanasenkov scored for Tampa Bay, which has lost three straight home games, one in a shootout.

Avalanche 7, Oilers 1: In Edmonton, Alberta, Milan Hejduk had two goals and an assist in his first game of the season, leading Colorado to a victory over the Oilers.

Edmonton goalie Jussi Markkanen gave up three goals on 13 shots and the Oilers allowed four goals in the second period in losing their sixth straight game, prompting a chorus of boos from the sellout crowd at Rexall Place.

Red Wings 3, Mighty Ducks 2: In Detroit, Pavel Datsyuk, Robert Lang and Mikael Samuelsson scored power-play goals and the Red Wings beat Anaheim.

It was Red Wings coach Mike Babcock’s first game against his former team.

Blue Jackets 4, Sharks 1: In Columbus, Ohio, Jason Chimera scored twice and Adam Foote added his first goal with the Blue Jackets, leading Columbus to a victory over San Jose.

David Vyborny also scored for Columbus, while Marc Denis made 24 saves.

Scott Thornton had the lone goal for the Sharks, who lost their third straight.

San Jose goaltender Evgeni Nabokov left Friday’s game and did not return after being driven into the boards. Team officials said he had stiffness in his upper body and would undergo tests to evaluate the injury. … The approach of Hurricane Wilma forced the NHL to postpone today’s game in Sunrise, Fla., between the Ottawa Senators and the Florida Panthers. The game will be made up Dec. 5
