Southern Miss holds off UAB

Dustin Almond threw three touchdown passes and Southern Mississippi held off a second-half rally by UAB for a 37-28 victory Friday night at Birmingham, Ala.

The Golden Eagles (4-2, 3-1 Conference USA) took a 17-0 lead, but the Blazers (3-4, 1-3) got within 34-28 with 5:51 to play.

UCF 34, Tulane 24: At Orlando, Fla., Kevin Smith ran for 113 yards and a touchdown, and he also threw for a key score to lead Central Florida (4-3, 3-1 C-USA) to a win over Tulane (2-4, 1-3).
