Valley Fire – Commissioners passed a resolution to go to self insurance for medical insurance, a move that is expected to save money. They opened two bids for new pumper trucks, but delayed awarding the contract until they are reviewed by the mechanics. (Source: Commissioner Joe Dawson)

Fairfield City Council – A representative of the Spokane County Conservation District gave a presentation on recent projects, including the Hangman Creek Watershed Plan. The town has received a $7,500 grant from the Department of Community Trade and Economic Development to update its growth management plan. Council members discussed applying for a Spokane County Community Development Grant for water line replacement. They passed a junk-vehicle ordinance and a nuisance ordinance. Rockford City Council – A representative from the Spokane County Conservation District gave a presentation on recent project. Plans for a newcomer’s pie and ice cream social were announced. New residents of Fairfield, Rockford, Waverly and Latah are invited to the social at 7 p.m. Monday at the Fairfield Community Center. (Source: Town clerk)

Fire District 8 – Commissioners discussed developing a citizen’s group to provide recommendations for the use of bond money that was intended to build an additional facility, a plan that has since been tabled. They also discussed the 2006 budget and amended a resolution regarding the compensation of exempt personnel who respond to emergencies outside District 8 boundaries. They also granted a request from the Latah/Waverly Fire District to transfer surplus equipment, two old Chevrolet Suburbans. (Source: Chief Bill Walkup)
