Zags shut out Toreros

Cristin Leverson scored her fourth goal of the season on a Beth Drollinger crossing pass to give 22nd-ranked Gonzaga a 1-0 victory over San Diego (4-10, 1-3) in a West Coast Conference women’s soccer match Friday at Martin Field.

Leverson provided the offense for the Bulldogs (11-3-2, 2-1-1) in the 21st minute and Ashley Haugen provided the defense with three saves, breaking her own single-season record with her seventh shutout.

•Amy Rodriguez scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to give USC the lead on its way to a 2-0 victory over Washington State in a Pac-10 match in Los Angeles.

Katie Hultin had three saves for the Cougars (8-7-1, 1-4), who were outshot 14-0 by the Trojans (8-4-2, 2-1-1).

•Steffannii Johnson (Medical Lake) scored a goal in each half to give CC Spokane a 2-0 victory over Clackamas at Spokane Falls CC and a NWAACC playoff berth.

Amy Danielson had seven saves to earn the shutout for the Sasquatch (13-3-3, 9-2-3), while Alexis DeLeo (Gonzaga Prep) and Katyln Laughlin (East Valley) each had assists.

Volleyball

Karah Rhoades led three Oregon State players with at least 16 kills as the Beavers (7-7, 3-5) defeated Washington State 30-13, 31-33, 30-20, 30-18 in a Pac-10 match in Corvallis, Ore..

Freshman Brittany Johnson had a career-high 15 kills for the Cougars (8-13, 1-7).

•Heather Hughes had nine kills, 24 assists and six blocks to lead Loyola Marymount (14-6, 2-4) to a 30-25, 30-25, 30-15 sweep of Gonzaga in a West Coast Conference match in Los Angeles.

Heather Dunn led the Bulldogs (10-13, 2-4) with eight kills and 19 assists. Becky Jones also had eight kills.

•Lindsay Harksen had 13 kills and 10 digs as No. 15 Linfield handed No. 20 Whitworth its first Northwest Conference loss with a 30-27, 30-22, 30-21 sweep in McMinnville, Ore.

Julie Marsh (Cheney) led the Pirates (15-3, 10-1) with 11 kills and 17 digs. Rebekah Hornor (Mead) added 33 assists.

Men’s soccer

Nick de Graffenreid (Pullman) and Chad Thornton (Cheney) each scored as the Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Pierce College (3-11-3, 3-8-2) 2-0 at Spokane Falls CC and clinched a berth in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges playoffs.

De Graffenreid opened scoring in the 32nd minute for the Sasquatch (8-8-3, 8-4-2), then Bryan Bourland (Mead) set up Thornton in the 68th.
