Kootenai sweeps Mackay, falls to Genesee

Darcy Collins had 11 kills and Cassie Scheffelmaier added 25 assists as Kootenai swept Mackay 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 in the first round of the State 1A volleyball championships at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

Hannah Nyrop had 11 digs for the Warriors, who were undefeated in Pool B play Thursday. In second-round match, the Warriors were swept by Pool C champion Genesee 25-23, 25-21, 25-15. No statistics were reported.

Kootenai (28-2) will face either Hagerman or Cole Valley Christian in a loser-out match today at 9 a.m.

The Warriors can place in the top three if they win twice and capture the tournament if they win five consecutive matches.

North Star League counterpart Wallace failed to advance to today’s tournament, going 1-2 in Pool C on Thursday at Lewiston High School. The Miners (15-10) defeated Oakley 25-18, 25-21 before being swept by Genesee 26-25, 25-16 and Cole Valley Christian 25-18, 20-25, 25-11.

Boys soccer

Lake City’s season came to an end as the Timberwolves fell to Idaho Falls 1-0 in consolation play at the State 5A tournament at the Capital Soccer Complex in Boise. LC finished 11-6-2 on the season.

•Bonners Ferry kept its season alive with a 3-0 victory over the Community School in State 3A consolation play. The Badgers (14-3-1) will face Bliss in today’s consolation championship.

Girls soccer

Lake City rebounded from a loss to eventual Idaho State 5A finalist Boise with a 1-0 victory over Skyline in consolation play at the Capital Soccer Complex in Boise.

The Timberwolves (11-8-3) will face Timberline in today’s consolation championship.

•St. Maries advanced to the State 3A consolation championship with a 3-0 victory over Sugar-Salem. The Lumberjacks, who improved to 7-11-1 on the season, will face Middleton.
