Tigers beat Shadle, advance to title match

Ivy Bush led three Lewis and Clark players with double-digit kills as the Tigers swept Shadle Park 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 in a District 8 4A volleyball semifinal match Friday night at Lewis and Clark.

Bush led LC with 12 kills, followed by Hannah Zimmerman and Janae Forney, who finished with 11 apiece. Zimmerman also had a match-high eight blocks, while Allison Moran added 36 assists.

Brynn DeLong led the Highlanders with seven kills and two aces.

In the other semifinal, Megan Thigpen led state-champion Mead with 11 kills, three aces and 12 digs in a 25-13, 25-12, 25-22 sweep of Gonzaga Prep at Mead. Amy Herron dished out 37 assists for the Panthers. Today’s district play at Mt. Spokane will begin with the host Wildcats facing University in a loser-out match at 1 p.m., followed by the third-place match between G-Prep (9-7) and Shadle at 3. Mead and LC will square off in the district championship at 5. The winner of the first match will play the loser of the second at 7 for the fourth and final regional berth.

Girls soccer

Rachel Lopez scored in the 58th minute to give University a 1-0 victory over visiting Mead in the District 8 4A second-place match. Alli Meyer had three saves and Allison Seymour added two for the Titans (16-1), who will face the winner of today’s Southridge/Kamiakin game in regional play Tuesday. Mead (13-5) was eliminated.
