Wildcats work overtime to beat West Valley

Kyle Redmond’s 13-yard touchdown pass in overtime lifted Mt. Spokane to a 28-21 non-league victory at West Valley during a Friday season opener.

The Eagles, looking to break into the win column after going 0-10 a year ago, tied the game late in the fourth quarter when 6-foot-6 wide receiver E.J. Richardson pulled in a 42-yard pass from Cam Weiber for his second touchdown of the game.

West Valley had two chances to take the lead in the final 90 seconds.

Mt. Spokane got three touchdowns from senior fullback Nick Ellis, who pulled in a 15-yard pass for one score, then reached the end zone on runs of 45 and two yards.

In other non-league games: Staked to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter, Ingraham rolled to a 53-34 victory over Rogers at Albi Stadium. Ingraham led 2-0 when Rogers’ Dirk Gaines was tackled in the end zone for a safety, and used a ground game that produced 264 rushing yards on 41 total carries to hold off the Pirates. … Shadle Park broke open a scoreless game in the second quarter en route to a 21-7 victory over Lakeside at Nine Mile Falls.
