Soccer players needed for cancer fund-raiser

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Soccer Kicks for Cancer” fund-raising event is seeking local youth soccer players to join other youth soccer players across Washington state in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Washington/Alaska Chapter.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a nonprofit group dedicated to the cure of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and the improvement in the quality of life of patients and their families.

The goal of the event, held through this month, is to sharpen kids’ soccer skills while teaching them the value of community service.

Players are asked to gather pledges for practicing their soccer skills, with a target of achieving 2,000 “touches” in 10 days.

Participating teams or individuals will receive a video featuring professional instruction, and a wrist band, and will be eligible for a chance to receive flap fixers, training balls and a signed U.S. National Soccer Team ball.

Benefit horse raffle

The Appaloosa Museum, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Appaloosa Club in Moscow, Idaho, is holding its annual horse raffle to raise funds for the museum’s operating expenses and to offer grant fellowships to students at Washington State University and the University of Idaho.

This year’s raffle horse is a 1-year old registered Appaloosa gelding by the name of E Arrow Bonds Butty, donated by Dennis and Patricia Smith of E Arrow Acres in Cheney.

Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five and must be purchased by the drawing date, Oct. 1; winner is responsible for all transportation costs.

‘Walk for Hope and a Future’

The Sandpoint Life Choices Pregnancy Center will hold a short walk Sept. 24 along the Long Bridge in Sandpoint beginning at Dog Beach, at the north end of the bridge.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., walk starts at 9.

Raffle tickets for a handmade queen size quilt donated by Val Wise of Deer Park or a resin bear bench donated by Cabin Crafts of Priest Lake, Idaho, will be available throughout the walk day for $5 each or $15 for four.

All proceeds will be used for operating expenses by the center, a nonprofit pro-life Christian volunteer organization that provides free pregnancy tests, counseling and support services on all options.
