WSU quintet featured in live radio taping

A live taping of the public radio show “Saint Paul Sunday,” featuring Washington State University’s Solstice Wind Quintet, will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Bryan Hall Auditorium in Pullman.

The nationally distributed classical music program is hosted by Bill McGlaughlin, former music director of the Kansas City Symphony. It airs Sundays at 9 a.m. on Northwest Public Radio affiliates, including KWSU-AM (1250) in Pullman.

The Solstice Wind Quintet will feature faculty members Ryan Hare, bassoon; Gary Plowman, oboe; Jennifer Scriggins, French horn; Anthony Taylor, clarinet; and Ann Yasinitsky, flute.

Tickets to attend the taping are $12 ($10 for WSU faculty and staff, $8 for WSU students), through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Ahrend recital at St. John’s

Janet Satre Ahrend, organist and choirmaster at Spokane’s Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will give a concert Sunday at 4 p.m. at the cathedral, 12th and Grand.

The program, “Organ Music by Northwest Composers,” includes a chant meditation on “Ave Verum Corpus” by Gonzaga University composition professor Kevin Waters; “Quiet Churches” by Spokane composer William Berry; and “An English Suite for Organ” by former Whitworth College organ professor David Dahl.

The cathedral will be open for tours before the concert. beginning at noon. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. For more information, call 838-4277.
