Athletics 2, Indians 0: At Cleveland, Dan Haren (13-10) limited baseball’s hottest team to four singles in 6 2/3 innings and pushed Oakland higher in the A.L. wild-card standings as the Athletics beat C.C. Sabathia (13-10) and Cleveland, stopping the Indians’ seven-game winning streak. Oakland, a major league-best 36-20 since the All-Star break, pulled within 1 1/2 games of the wild card-leading Indians.

Twins 2, Tigers 1: At Detroit, Kyle Lohse (9-12) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings to lead Minnesota past the Tigers, ending the Twins’ three-game losing streak. Joe Mauer had four of the Twins’ 13 hits, including a go-ahead single in the seventh. Detroit has lost 10 of 12.

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5 (11): At Toronto, David Ortiz hit two home runs, including a drive in the 11th inning that gave Boston a win over the Blue Jays. Manny Ramirez also homered for the Red Sox, who recovered after wasting a 5-0 lead and moved 3 1/2 games ahead of the second-place New York Yankees in the A.L East.

Orioles 4, Rangers 2: At Arlington, Texas, Daniel Cabrera (10-11) struck out seven to win his second consecutive start since coming off the disabled list and Baltimore scored twice on a dropped fly ball by Kevin Mench in a victory over the Rangers.

National League

Phillies 4, Braves 1: At Philadelphia, Eude Brito (1-0) tossed three-hit ball over six shutout innings in his third career start, keeping the Phillies in the hunt for the N.L. wild card with a win over Atlanta. Pat Burrell had three hits and two RBIs and Jimmy Rollins extended his hitting streak to 18 games for Philadelphia.

Marlins 8, Astros 2: At Houston, Dontrelle Willis (21-8) gave Florida the N.L. wild-card lead with an outstanding all-around effort in a victory over the Astros. Willis pitched his seventh complete game of the season and belted a two-run home run as Florida moved a half-game ahead of the Astros in the wild-card race.

Reds 5, Cubs 2: At Chicago, Javier Valentin and Wily Mo Pena homered off Greg Maddux (12-12) on consecutive pitches to start the fifth inning and Cincinnati beat the Cubs behind strong pitching from Aaron Harang (10-12). Pena added a three-run homer in the ninth.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 3: At St. Louis, pinch-hitter John Rodriguez’ ninth-inning RBI single off Salomon Torres (4-5) gave the Cardinals a victory over Pittsburgh, reducing their magic number for clinching the N.L. Central to four. St. Louis improved to 11-3 this season against the last-place Pirates and have won 18 of its last 21 games.

Giants 4, Padres 3: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds doubled and scored in his first at-bat of the season, Ray Durham homered and Mike Matheny hit a go-ahead single in the fourth inning as the Giants rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat San Diego.

Dodgers 7, Rockies 0: At Los Angeles, Jeff Weaver (14-9) won for the seventh time in eight decisions, pitching a three-hitter for his fifth career shutout and leading the Dodgers over Colorado.
