Associated Press

DonTrell Moore ran for 120 yards to become New Mexico’s all-time career rushing leader and Kole McKamey threw two touchdown passes Saturday night in a 38-21 win over New Mexico State in Albuquerque, N.M.

Moore’s record-setter was an 8-yard run up the middle to the New Mexico State 24 with 10:26 left in the second quarter. Three plays later he took a screen pass from McKamey, cut to his left and went in untouched from 24 yards. The score capped a 91-yard, 19-play drive that consumed 9 1/2 minutes and gave the Lobos a 14-0 lead.

Moore, with 3,928 career rushing yards, broke the previous record of 3,862 yards set by Mike Williams from 1975-78. He and McKamey, who ran for 152 yards, led the Lobos to a season-high 314 yards rushing.

New Mexico (3-0) dominated the Aggies (0-3) and their one-dimensional (passing) offense. The Aggies got an 80-yard pass from Royal Gill to Paul Dombrowski in the second quarter, a 4-yard scoring run by Derek Dubois in the third quarter and a 1-yard run by Justine Buries late in the fourth quarter. The last two scores came after New Mexico had built a 38-7 lead.

The Aggies managed to finish with positive yards rushing. They had 98 after averaging minus-6 yards in their first two games. Buries had 115 yards on 20 carries.

Kansas 34, La. Tech 14

Brian Luke threw three touchdown passes and the Jayhawks (3-0) scored twice off interceptions in a 66-second span in the fourth quarter to beat the Bulldogs (0-2) in Lawrence, Kan.

Wearing red uniforms for the first time in 58 years, the Jayhawks snapped out of a funk and a 7-all halftime tie to post their first 3-0 start since 1997.

Luke, a senior who began the season No. 2 behind Adam Barmann, was 19 for 31 for 236 yards after passing for only 60 yards in the first half. Mark Simmons caught six balls for 106 yards and figured prominently in two scoring drives.

Louisiana Tech, which gave up 475 yards in a 41-3 loss to No. 6 Florida in its season opener, held Kansas to 73 yards in the first half. But Matt Kubik and Donald Allen each threw two interceptions.
