Polo match, auction to aid two charities

Benefit the Spokane Ronald McDonald House and Make-A-Wish Foundation today by attending the first “Tent, Hats & Champagne” event.

The festivities includes a polo match, parade of horses, champagne divot stomp, luncheon and auction from noon to 4 p.m. at the Spokane Polo Club, 7500 W. Highway 2.

Event to aid injured Reardan boy

An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held to benefit 7-year old Zachary T. Baldwin, who was severely injured when a vehicle struck him while he was riding his dirt bike near Reardan July 23.

Next Sunday’s meal and auction will be held in the Pavilion at Northern Quest Casino from 4 to 8 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 11 and under, or $30 for a family of four or more.

Zachary has undergone seven surgeries thus far, including repairs to his fractured legs and to his spine, and a tracheotomy, and he will continue to need medical care in the future.

All proceeds will be donated to the Baldwin family for Zachary’s medical expenses.

Donations also are being accepted at Global Credit Union locations for those who wish to contribute but cannot attend the dinner and auction. Please mention the 92 AMXS account.

A show for charity

It is time for Sacred Heart Medical Center’s ninth annual production of “Heart Follies” at the Spokane Opera House.

“Postcards from the Heart,” a Broadway-style song and dance show performed by employees and friends of the medical center, will be Saturday with performances at 2 and 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for the matinee and $15 for the evening show.

Special features in this year’s show include a performance by the winner of KHQ Television’s “Gimme the Mike” contest, professional water glass ringers and a barbershop quartet.

“Postcards from the Heart ” is an original program by Jaime Donegan Productions of Philadelphia. Donegan specializes in producing shows as fund-raisers for nonprofit organizations across the country.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, which offers warm, nutritious means to women and children in the Spokane area, and the Sister Peter Claver Endowment to support Sacred Heart’s charitable work, education and research.

Concert to benefit Camp Fire girls

John Bodinger and Friends will play a free benefit concert for Camp Fire USA next Sunday.

Bodinger, director of music at Manito Presbyterian Church and an adjunct faculty member at Whitworth College, will perform at 3 p.m. at Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave.

Diapers needed

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery is in critical need of size 4 and 5 diaper donations.

Due to the lack of size 4 and 5 diapers, the nonprofit facility recently has had to turn needy families away.

Donations are being accepted at the nursery, 1004 E. Eighth Ave.

The nonprofit organization offers a haven for children of families in crisis and provides support programs to help their parents.
