Gonzaga recorded back-to-back triple plays in the second and third innings then took the lead with a five-run fifth as the Bulldogs defeated Washington State University, 6-2, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday evening at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman.

With the loss the Cougars fall to 21-10 on the season while Gonzaga improves to 21-10.

Both triple plays came with Cougar runners at first and second. In both cases, line drives were caught by first baseman Bobby Carlson, who stepped on first and threw to second to complete the triple play.

It’s not known if an NCAA team has recorded triple plays in consecutive innings before.
