Churches plan services for Palm Sunday, Holy Week

In observance of Palm Sunday and Holy Week, many area churches are offering special services.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is holding Palm Sunday services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Nursery care is available.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall, is offering choral Eucharist Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m.

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., is presenting Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10:45 a.m.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is offering Palm Sunday services with Holy Communion at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is offering Palm Sunday Eucharist services Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 8 and 10:15 a.m.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., will celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem Sunday at 10 a.m.

Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard St., is presenting a Palm Sunday service that includes a handbell duet performance Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Handel’s ‘Messiah’

The Whitworth Choir is performing Handel’s “Messiah” Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

The concert will feature soloists Darnelle Preston, soprano, Olivia Moore, alto, Steve Goodenberger, tenor, and George Evelyn, bass.

The chamber orchestra, which will accompany the choir, will feature Phillip Baldwin on violin, David Dutton on oboe, Cheryl Carney on cello and John Bodinger on harpsichord.

The cost of admission is $15 for general seating and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets are available through the Whitworth Music Department at 777-3280, TicketsWest at 325-SEAT. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Easter: The Eternal Story in Dance

Cheney Community Church, 1307 Third, Cheney, is offering “Easter: The Eternal Story in Dance” on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The performance is an interpretive dance featuring elements of ballet, modern and symbolic dance, as well as mime and dancing with ribbons.

Admission is free, but since there is limited seating, reserve your ticket at 216-3561.

Enneagram Personality Types class

Ancient Traditions Community Church, 1928 E. Rich Ave., is presenting a class on the Enneagram Personality Types on the second Monday of every month starting Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The discussion will focus on the Type 6 personality, the loyalist, and also include each of the personality models.

There is a suggested donation of $5.

Palm Sunday breakfasts

Mary Queen Parish, 3423 E. Carlisle Ave., is holding its annual Palm Sunday breakfast Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cost is a donation of $6 and $4 for children ages 6 through 12.

Bazaar

Jesus Is the Answer Church, 1803 E. Desmet Ave., is presenting a mini spring bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items for sale will include kitchen appliances, small furniture, men’s and women’s suits, arts and crafts and jewelry.

The event also will provide food and entertainment.
