Churches offer Easter services, egg hunts

Lent is over, and Easter is upon us. Church congregations across the greater Spokane Valley will be celebrating Jesus’ Resurrection with special services, brunches and the occasional Easter egg hunt.

The pews are usually packed on Easter morning, so plan to arrive early.

•Before Easter Sunday come Holy Saturday Easter vigil services. The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will begin its vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the church, 15319 E. Eighth Ave. Services on Easter Sunday will begin at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

A free brunch will be served at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. An Easter egg hunt will follow the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Millwood Presbyterian Church will host its annual Easter sunrise service at Arbor Crest, 4705 N. Fruit Hill Road, at 7 a.m. Sunday. Additional services will follow at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at the church, 4322 N. Marguerite Road.

•Easter services will begin at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. at Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway Ave. There will be special activities for children.

Berean Bible Church will have one service at 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday. An education hour will follow.

Child care will be provided for infants, and there will be activities for children age 2 through the fourth grade. The church is at 10910 E. Boone Ave.

•An informal Easter service will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road. Breakfast will follow at 9:30 a.m.

A formal service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Redeemer Lutheran Church will host its annual community Easter egg hunt today at 11 a.m. In addition to eggs and candy, there will be a petting zoo, jumping castle and a hot dog lunch. Events are free for children up through the fifth grade.

The church is at 3606 S. Schafer Road.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church continues its tradition of hosting a sunrise Easter service at the Saltese Cemetery. The service will begin at 6:30 a.m.

To reach the cemetery, head south on Sullivan Road from Sprague Avenue and turn left on Saltese Road.

The church also will host services at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the church, 810 S. Sullivan Road. There will be an Easter egg hunt and a breakfast between the services.

•A sunrise Easter service will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday at Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road. A continental breakfast will follow.

Additional worship services will begin at 9 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

•The eggs are hidden and awaiting discovery today at Peace Lutheran Church. The community Easter egg hunt for toddlers through the fifth grade will begin at 1 p.m. today at the church, 4124 N. Harvard Road. The church will host an Easter service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

•Easter worship services will begin at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road.

•A traditional Easter worship service will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave. The Chancel Choir and Brass Quintet will perform.

A breakfast of baked goods, coffee and juice will follow from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. Also during that time will be an Eastern egg hunt for children in preschool through the second grade at 10 a.m.

A contemporary worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday will conclude the morning.

•An Easter breakfast will be served from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Sunday at Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road. A Sunday School hour will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a worship service at 10:45 a.m.

•Easter services will begin at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road.

Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will begin its Easter services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Concert

The King’s Heralds Quartet will appear in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Spokane Valley Adventist Church, 1601 S. Sullivan Road. The a capella group sings a variety of musical styles and has part of the performance dedicated to children.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. All are welcome to attend.
