Safeco investigates fatality at garage
A second investigation into last weekend’s fatal accident at River Park Square garage in Spokane has begun. This one has been started by Safeco Insurance as part of a claim filed by the garage owner, said Jennifer West, a spokeswoman for River Park Square.
“This is standard procedure for anyone preparing a claim,” said West.
Last weekend, 62-year-old Jo Savage, of Pullman, drove through a concrete barrier on the garage’s fifth floor. She died from injuries after her car fell more than 50 feet to a street ramp below.
Savage’s family will hold a simple memorial service for her at 1 p.m. today at Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman.
West said Spokane police detectives are in charge of the primary investigation of the accident. The insurance company’s intention is to clarify the circumstances, she said.
The parking garage is owned by real estate affiliates of Cowles Co., which publishes The Spokesman-Review.

Medical Lake
Lakeland Village cited in woman’s drowning
The state Department of Social and Health Services cited Lakeland Village for failing to properly supervise a developmentally delayed woman who drowned in a bathtub at the Medical Lake institution last month.
The state refused to release the name of the 52-year-old victim. Medical Lake police are investigating the death and are awaiting lab results, the department said.
“The person was supposed to have supervision while bathing,” said Kathy Leitch, assistant secretary for Aging and Disability Services.
The department cited Lakeland Village for failing to provide one-on-one supervision and failing to conduct a thorough investigation into the March 21 death. There was no fine.
The employee, whose name was not released, has been reassigned to a position that does not involve contact with residents while the police investigation continues, the department said.

Rose Lake, Idaho
Spokane Valley woman killed in I-90 crash
A 41-year-old Spokane Valley woman died Thursday evening in a crash on Interstate 90 near Rose Lake, Idaho. Cenia Enamorado-Munoz was a passenger in a 1993 Ford Explorer driven by 21-year-old Edvin Sabillon-Enamorado, also from Spokane Valley.
According to Idaho State Police, Sabillon-Enamorado was westbound on I-90 about 5:40 p.m. when the car drifted off the left shoulder, into the median, swerved back across the road and off the right shoulder.
The SUV rolled several times, coming to rest on its top, the state patrol said. Enamorado-Munoz was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Sabillon-Enamorado was in fair condition Friday at Kootenai Medical Center. No charges have been filed at this time.
